D. G. Yuengling & Son ROG Sign, Pottsville, PA. Circa 1900

Featured is a stunning reverse on glass sign from the D. G. Yuengling Brewery which is based in the small town of Pottsville, Pennsylvania.   This sign advertises their original name, the Eagle Brewery.  The sign also proudly boasts their various styles of beer, Ales, Porter, and Extra Fine Lager beer.  The frame is a gilded style gold wood similar to the gesso style signs, so popular in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s time period.

The Yuengling Brewing Company is still going strong today.  Founded in 1829 on Centre Street in Pottsville by David Gottlieb Yuengling as the Eagle Brewery, this is the oldest continuous running brewery in North America.  Yuengling also is basically tied with the Boston Brewing Company, makers of Sam Adams for the top spot as the largest American owned brewery today.   Pottsville is located west of Philadelphia in the dutch part of PA.   True to it’s original name, the brewery continues to use the eagle emblem in much of their advertising as they did over 100 years ago.
